Happy Friday #5

We all have bad weeks and this was one of mine. Sadly I had quite a lot of rejection this week on the job front but I am not going to let this get me down.

One of the things that cheered me up was this cute teddy bear that my mum bought me for Christmas. It is cuddly and adorable and hence it was pretty good at cheering me up!

My Granny's Birthday present arrived this week and I love it! It is a journal that you give to your Grandma and get her to fill it in about her life, all the stories and memories. She then gives it back to you so you can learn all about her life. Thinking about it now, perhaps it is a present for me as well....woops!

Having a lot of work to do at the moment I have been spending an awful lot of time at my desk so having all these photos and postcards right in front of me makes in a much more bearable experience!

I wrote a few weeks ago about crocheting a blanket for a new baby in the family and this week I finished it! I am so proud of it, as it is my first ever attempt!

What has made you happy this week?

Happy Friday #4

Another week, another bunch of things that have made me smile to share with you. I can't believe we are on the FOURTH Friday in 2014 already!

For the first 10 days of 2014 the UK was going mental for the return of Sherlock. I, myself have never watched it and have had to keep it that way until I have finished University because the last thing I need is another TV programme to obsess about! But don't worry Sherlock fans, as soon as I have finished my degree I shall start from the beginning and watch them all in one day, just watch me!

Source
Anyway, I must have been the only person in the country to be happy it had finished for the sole reason that Call the Midwife took its place. I adore Call the Midwife, it is actually proving to be in close competition with Doctor Who as my favourite TV show, and that is saying a lot! I love history, anything about health care and. yes, I may have a little soft spot for babies too. If you have never watched it I would recommend it to the
moon and back, to sum it up it is about a group of nuns and midwifes in 50's London. It is full of emotion, drama, love and friendship and I love it!

Surprisingly, this week actually brought some news better than the return of Call the Midwife, hard to believe I know! All on the same day, two of my friends got job interviews for jobs the REALLY want and another got an offer of an amazing job that he can't wait to start once he graduates. When things go right for my friends I can't help but be incredible excited and happy for them.

This week also saw my Mum's birthday. Sadly I wasn't able to go home to see her on the day but she did send me a picture of a cake a college made for her. It might make more sense if I told you that she is a pharmacist, so a packet of tablets was quite suitable, I thought! Round of applause to the lady who made the cake too, it looks amazing!

The final happy thing I have to share with you this week is my love for Mary Berry's cook books. I got one for Christmas and it has already jumped to the top of the list as my favourite cook book. My dad has had the older version of my one for years so I loved Mary Berry even before she became really famous on The Great British Bake Off.

The book is split into sections and at the beginning of each one there is a contents page which has pictures of everything so you can see what it looks like before you even get to the recipe. This week I used the book to try something new but I will tell you about that on my Something New Monday post on, you've guessed it, Monday :P

I hope your week has been full of things to make you smile and I would love to hear about them in the comments.

Happy Friday #3

For January the weather has been quite good this week, cold yes, but nice and bright. How British is this of me, discussing the weather, but this week it did really make me happy.
I started the week with a very nice and, I think the word I am supposed to use here is 'refreshing', but it was probably better described as cold and windy! Saying that though it is lovely to get out of the house and just have a nice walk with out having to think about all the things I should be doing.

Like A LOT of people something that makes me very happy indeed is food, and chocolate cookies are up there with some of the best. Not only did I devower this bag of cookies but I also had an extremely tasty Dominoes with a group of friends over the weekend, which was made even better for their company!
All this talk of food is making me hungry!

For Christmas my Mum got me these nail varnishes which are lovely colours and the fact they dry in 60 seconds mean that they are suitable for someone as impatient as me!

Stupidly though I managed to leave these little beauties at home upon my return to University, so my lovely mum posted them to me this week, isn't she lovely! This week I have gone for the purple with the clear over the top.

It is physically impossible to have a bad week when your Mum include this in the package she sends you, it is now stuck firmly on my wall :D
(I would just like to say that I am her ONLY daughter so she isn't actually picking favourite!)

Well this week was certainly much better than last week
What has made you happy this week?

Happy Friday #2

Well this week has certainly been a mixed bag in terms of happiness. On the one hand there was the terrible sadness of losing my dog Ben but on the other hand there was much happiness from the announcement of my friends engagement.

I know this post is supposed to be happy but I didn't feel it was possible to write it without mentioning what happened to Ben because sadness is something that happens and something that shouldn't be ignored. I have wrote a full post about what happened to Ben which you can read HERE but what I will say is that he was a lovely dog who I will miss dearly.

Something else that happened this week has helped to keep my mind of Ben, my friend got engaged! I am really happy for him and his fiance and it has taken a lot of determination not to ask to turn into a girly mess, squeel and ask to see a picture of the ring. You see, I am the only girl in this group of friends so I am not really sure it is the place for that behavior :P (I am not promising I will last long without asking to see it though!)

On Sunday I traveled back to university, a journey which takes 12 hours, so as you can imagine I was not looking forward to it. But on one particular 4 hour train journey I found myself with a table seat to myself, which even had a power socket! As train journeys go that was a good one!

Doing this project I am noticing so many happy things in my daily life and if I included them all you would get very bored but there is just room for one more. My cupboards were bare one evening so I went to the local shop to get some tea and found this supply of food:

I got it all for a total of £1.23 yet had it not been reduced it would have cost me £8.10. Savings like that make me very happy indeed!

I hope you week was full of happiness.

(wo)Mans Best Friend

On Sunday I lost one of my best friends, he provided my with love, hugs and much companionship. Sadly my dog Ben, who I introduced to this blog a few weeks ago, died just hours before I left to go back to university.

I wrote in the post about him and my other dog, Harry, that he had been ill but we had no idea what was wrong. Well sadly on Saturday he started to fit, at first we thought he would pull through, he was getting better but sadly that evening he started fitting again, and we new it didn't look good. We were in constant talks with the vet throughout the day but she said he would be best kept quiet at home.

Anyway, sadly overnight he passed away from what they vet thinks was a brain tumor. There was nothing they could do and luckily he didn't suffer too much.

We got Ben 6 years ago from rescue center when he was 10 months old and although he caused quite a lot of trouble, I loved him dearly. Being from a rescue center he had a few behavioral issues but it was when I started being without him for long periods of time whilst at uni that i realised how important he was to me.

He even made it to having his photograph on the wall by my bed and not many have achieved that accolade, believe me. I may make jokes during this post but inside it does hurt quite a lot losing him, it is just the way I deal with things. I can't stand sadness, so I try and get ride of it by cracking a (very poor) joke.

I thought a silly picture of Ben would be appropriate here :P

When Ben died I was very angry at myself for being upset which may sound weird but I didn't feel that I had the right to feel sad when there are people out there who have lost there mums, dads, siblings, spouses, children and that must be much much worse. But pets defiantly become part of the family, some people are even closer to there pets than they are their own family. I am not trying to compare the two, I am just trying to say is what I should have realized when I was beating up my pillow on the morning of his death, it is OK to be upset.

Right, well that is definitely enough sadness, for a happier post click HERE to read my Happy Friday post. Don't worry it is MUCH happier than this one!

Ben, I really do miss you, sweet dreams.

Happy Friday #1

It's the first Friday of 2014 so I thought it would be a good time to reflect on the things that have made me happy this week.

I aim to write a post like this once a week for a year, with the hope that it will stop me taking the small things for granted and make me a generally happier person. Posting it on a Friday will hopefully help me get through the last day of the working/uni week too :P

So as 2014 only started on Wednesday it doesn't give me a lot of time to pull from but actually it wasn't difficult to pick things to write about, we are only 2 days in and I have had loads of things that made me happy.

It started at just gone midnight on the 1st January, when I was stood with a group of friends watching fireworks go across the bay from my friends garden. Welcoming in the New Year with people I love looking onto a beautiful view was fantastic.

Spending New Years day watching Harry Potter and Doctor Who whilst doing the ironing made me happy for two reasons surprisingly. The first was of course the watching of two of my favourite things, it boggles me as to how they couldn't make you happy. During Harry Potter I kept jumping around in excitement for the scene that was about to come. Being happy about Ironing, I admit, is a bit weirder but I swear my parents leave it all to pile up until I get home so to do something nice for them and get it done makes me very happy, there is also a nice sense of achievement in there too.

My dogs also make me very happy. Watching the Springer Spaniel, Ben, rest his head on my Mums knee as she did a jigsaw was incredibly sweet! Also, with both dogs having been ill lately, watching them simply wagging there tails whilst out for a walk was a delight.

Sitting with a friend catching up over a cup of tea (ok orange juice but shhh!) about the festive period is the a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. She has been one of my closest friends for the past 10 years and since we went to different Universities anytime we get to spend together is fantastic.

Well that is just a few of the things that have made me happy so far this week. I hope that next week is just as good, and the rest of the year for that matter.

Happy New Year and Welcome to a Brand New EyeZedZedWhy!

So the New Year is upon us, it is 2014! Can you believe it?!? I suppose that means I should probably stop dancing around my room to Christmas songs :P

I welcomed in the year in a way which has become a tradition for me, running into the Irish Sea. Most years I go in in a swimming costume but this year the sea was too rough to go in very far sadly but it certainly blew away the cobwebs!

2014 is going to be a massive year for me, it is the year I'll graduate from University. So this year I will have to start living an adult life; get a proper job and get a my own place. Out of those two things I bet you can guess which I am more excited about.

Although these are going to be very scary changes, it gives me the perfect chance to change my life for the better. It is so easy to get into a routine, just doing the same things day after day but this year I am determined to change that.

Try New Things

By trying new things I hope to find new hobbies and gain new skills which will make me a better human being. Before University I was defiantly a Yes girl. I would say yes to most things but since starting Uni I have just stuck to basic things trying to get through my degree.

This year however I want to start afresh, I am going to try lots more stuff and have fun doing so.

Do More for Other's

As with trying new things in recent years I have not been doing as much for other people, before then I was constantly volunteering etc but sadly that has reduced a bit lately something that I am quite ashamed of to be honest.

This year I am going to make a point of doing something good for others once a week.

Remember the Things that Make me Happy

It is remarkably easy to go though a day and not notice a single thing that makes you happy, in truth though that is a lie. If we all were just to open our eyes to the world around us we would see hundreds of things everyday.

What about that butterfly that landed on your arm? or the shop keeper who smiled at you whilst selling you some bread? I find my self keeping my head down getting on with my day but this year I want to notice more.

I also want to documented the fun times I have so that I have pictures and videos so that I can remember them for ever!

Get my Degree

It is as simple as that really I want to finish my degree with a decent result and hopefully get a job from it.

I have really big plans for 2014, so lets get on with it!
